What Is an AI Image Combiner?
A plain-English guide to how AI merges two photos into one: what happens when you press Generate, what it costs, how long it takes and where it still gets things wrong.
Written by the team that builds ImageCombiner.
Quick answer
What does an AI image combiner do?
An AI image combiner takes two photos and generates one new image in which the people, pets or objects from each photo appear together in a single scene. Unlike a collage maker, it does not paste the originals next to each other: an image model redraws the whole picture, so light, shadows, scale and perspective match.
- Cost
- 1 credit per image at 1K, 2 at 2K, 4 at 4K. New accounts get 3 free credits (valid for 30 days).
- Speed
- Median 18 seconds at 1K; 90% of images finish within 46 seconds (610 generations, Oct 6 – Nov 5, 2026).
- Photos you can use
- JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC, up to 10 MB each.
- Result
- One new image at 1K, 2K or 4K, with no watermark.
- Privacy
- Photos go to our AI provider only to create your result and are never used to train models. They are kept until you delete your account.
- Safety
- Every prompt and photo is screened. Sexual or violent content is blocked before any credit is spent.
AI image combiner, collage maker or manual editing?
| AI image combiner | Collage or side-by-side maker | Manual editing (e.g. Photoshop) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What you get | One new image with the subjects together in one scene | Your original photos arranged in a layout, unchanged | Cut-outs pasted into one photo |
| Skill needed | None: upload and describe | None | Masking plus light and colour matching |
| Time | Median 18 seconds per image (1K) | Instant | Often hours per photo |
| Faithfulness | Faces and details can shift slightly, so review the result | Pixel-for-pixel originals | Exact, as far as your skill allows |
| Best for | Couple photos, adding a person, products in a scene | Before and after, comparisons, grids | Pixel-exact professional retouching |
Under the hood
What happens when you press Generate
Three steps run between your upload and the finished image. Knowing them explains both why the results look natural and why small details can change.
1. Your photos are uploaded and checked
Each photo (JPG, PNG, WebP or iPhone HEIC, up to 10 MB) is uploaded to our storage. HEIC files are converted in your browser first.
Before anything is generated, your prompt and every photo go through automated content moderation. Sexual or violent content is blocked at this point, before any credit is spent.
2. An image model redraws the scene
The photos and your instruction are sent to an image-generation model. It does not cut anything out; it generates a brand-new picture that contains the subjects from both photos.
Because the whole image is drawn at once, lighting direction, colour temperature, shadows and perspective come out consistent. That same process is why a face, a logo or a line of text can come back slightly different from the original.
3. You review and download
The result comes back at 1K, 2K or 4K with no watermark and is saved in My images. Compare faces, hands and any text with your source photos before you share or print it.
Honest limits
Where AI image combiners still struggle
These are the cases where you should expect to retry or choose a different tool.
- Exact likeness is not guaranteed. Faces are usually recognisable, but small changes happen, especially at low resolution.
- Text, logos and product labels can be redrawn incorrectly. Check packaging and signs carefully.
- Small faces in large groups lose detail. Close-up, well-lit faces work best.
- Missing detail cannot be restored. Very blurry, tiny or heavily filtered photos give weaker results.
- Hands, overlapping bodies and hugs are the most common places for mistakes.
- The result is a new composite, not proof that people were together. Say so when that matters.
Better results
How to get a better result
- Use one clear, well-lit photo per person with the face fully visible.
- Photos taken from a similar camera height and angle blend more naturally.
- Describe the scene concretely: the place, the pose and the light ("sitting on a park bench at golden hour").
- When you retry, change one thing at a time so you can see what helped.
- Test the idea at 1K (1 credit), then generate the version you want to keep or print at 2K or 4K.
Cost and privacy
What it costs and what happens to your photos
Each generated image costs 1 credit at 1K, 2 at 2K and 4 at 4K. New accounts get 3 free credits, valid for 30 days. After that you can buy one-time credit packs (40 credits for $5.99, 100 for $12.99, 300 for $29.99) or a monthly plan from $6.9 a month billed annually.
Your photos are sent to our AI provider only to create your result and are never used to train models or sold. Uploaded and generated images are kept while your account is active and deleted when you delete your account. Commercial use of the results needs a Pro or Premium plan and the rights to both source photos.
AI Image Combiner — FAQ
Is an AI image combiner free?
You can try it free: new ImageCombiner accounts get 3 credits, and one image at 1K costs 1 credit. If you only need photos placed next to each other, the side-by-side tool is completely free and needs no account.
How long does it take to combine two photos with AI?
Over the last 30 days the median was 18 seconds for a 1K image, and 90% of images were ready within 46 seconds. 2K and 4K images take longer.
Will faces stay exactly the same?
Not exactly. The model redraws the whole scene, so faces are usually recognisable but can change slightly. Use sharp, well-lit source photos and review the result before sharing it.
Is it safe to upload my photos?
Photos are used only to create your result, are never used for training and are deleted when you delete your account. Every upload is also screened, and sexual or violent content is blocked.
Do I need an AI image combiner or a collage maker?
Use a collage or side-by-side maker when you want the original photos unchanged, such as before and after shots. Use an AI image combiner when the subjects should appear together in one scene, such as a couple photo made from two solo pictures.
